About

Fiber Guild Groningen was founded by a pair of crocheters and spinners, Voskop and Karak. We were looking to drag more folks into spinning, and to find community while doing it! We are starting small - a workshop by Voskop, occasional shared activities, a website and a Whatsapp group - but who yet knows where it will take us? We are excited to find out!

My name is Voskop (they/them), and I've been crocheting since I was a child but got into it really hard when I started living on my own and impulse buying yarn from the Zeeman became a thing. I've been spinning since 2021 ish, when I impulse bought a wheel that I then had to take on two bus rides. I got into it for the home prep - my first spin ever was also my first raw wool that I washed and carded myself. I don't think I'd recommend that in hindsight but it sure was fun! I love long-lasting projects (small gauge big goal) and putting beads on said large projects, and I love teaching people stuff and infecting them with fiber hobbies. For a day job, I'm a backend software engineer, which is why the Neocities and the ambitious future plans instead of, say, a Wordpress.

Hi, I'm Karak (they/it)! I have been crocheting since 2023 and spinning since 2025, both of which can be blamed on Voskop because 1) they made it look very fun, and 2) I'm gay as hell and wanted to do hobbies together. I'm fond of colourful yarns, showy stitches that work well as shawls or bags, and love to stick my hands in wool! I've been spinning on a drop spindle since the start, and am hoping to make friends with Voskop's wheel soon. My chronic health issues keep me from doing as much as I'd like, so a lot of the that time I cannot spend actively crafting I pour instead into research for the next project.
